Invisalign Care

Do's

  • Wear your aligners for 20 hours per day.

  • Use your fingers to put your aligners in place. First, place the aligners over your front teeth, and then use your fingers to push the aligner over your molars. When aligners are correctly inserted, they will fit all the way down on the teeth, with no space between the top of the aligners and the top of the teeth. Aligners will fit tightly at first but should fit well at the end of the two week period.

  • Keep aligners in except when flossing, brushing, eating. You must remove the aligners when drinking anything other than water.

  • Brush your teeth after eating or drinking prior to putting your aligners back in to prevent staining and cavities. If you do not have access to a toothbrush, rinse your mouth thoroughly of food debris before putting your aligners in and brush as soon as you are able.

  • Remove the aligner by pulling it off both sides of your back teeth simultaneously then lifting it off of your front teeth. Place your aligners in the case we provided any time they are not being worn.

  • Clean aligners with a toothbrush (without toothpaste) and cold water, the cleaning crystals in the starter kit or soak in hydrogen peroxide.

  • Wear each set of aligners for 2 weeks unless our office directs otherwise.

  • When changing into your next aligner, clean those you are switching out of and place them back into your box for

  • Wear aligners in the correct numerical order. (Each aligner is labeled by number and with a U or an L to designate upper or lower.)

  • Take Tylenol to ease any soreness or discomfort when switching into new aligners.

  • Only bring the aligners you are currently wearing to your orthodontic appointments.

  • If you lose one of your aligners, please try the next tray. If it does not fit, please go back to the previous tray and call our office for next steps. It is extremely important to use a tray to keep teeth from shifting.

  • If any of your attachments happen to fall off there is no need to schedule an emergency appointment. Just make sure you let the Doctor know at your next scheduled visit.

Don’ts

  • Don’t place your aligners in or on a napkin or tissue. Many aligners have accidentally been thrown out this way!

  • Don’t use your teeth to “bite” your aligners into place

  • If you have pets, don’t place your aligners anywhere that your pets can reach them. Pets are attracted to saliva and would enjoy chewing on your Invisalign trays!

  • Do not use alcohol, toothpaste or bleach to clean your aligners.

  • Do not use boiling water or warm water on your aligners.

  • Don’t chew gum with your aligners in.
